First Impression: SheIn

I’ve been seeing the new brand SheIn all over my news feed recently, so I had to check out the hype. Plus sizes at a cheap price that are cute and good quality?! This can’t be real….

So, for those that haven’t seen the up and coming brand, SheIn is an online store that features both straight and plus size clothing at an affordable price. Recently, I have been seeing tons of bloggers and beauty/fashion influencers posting about the new brand. I decided to test the waters and see what all the hype is about.

The first thing I noticed was the trendy clothing styles. SheIn offers cute options that if styled correctly can be very flattering on a plus size figure. The second thing I noticed was the price point. Girl, they gots the deals hunty, and I believe shipping was free. I selected the the 4 items pictured below which totaled about $58.00.

I received my order in about 1 and a half weeks and noticed immediately that the brand tends to  run small. I recommend ordering 2 sizes up (in most cases) to ensure comfort and flexibility. Out of the four items I purchased, I sent two back due to sizing issues, and decided to keep the black high waist-ed paper bag shorts and the palm print belted V-neck jumpsuit.

The shorts retailed at $15.30 and fit well but there seemed to have a lot of extra material around my belly area, which simply is not flattering. If I were going to reorder them I would definitely go down a size. I am also only 5’5 which means longer shorts tend to make me look shorter and that is exactly what was happening in these shorts.

Shirt: Forever 21 Plus; size 1x

Shorts: SheIn; size 3x

Shoes and : Torrid; size 10

Bag: Kate Spade

The jumpsuit, which I admit was my favorite piece, retailed for only $17.00! It was a little snug around the waist but laid nicely with the attached tie belt. The deep V neckline wasn’t especially supportive, but enough to keep the girls covered and in place with minor movement. My only complaint about this piece is the length of the pant legs. They fell just below my ankle which could work with flat sandals, but with heels looks a little high watery, which is why I chose a kitten heel to go with it.

Jumpsuit: SheIn; size 3x

Bag: Aldo

Shoes: Ashley Stewart; size 10

Earrings: Lane Bryant

All in all, SheIn puts me in the mindset of Dots, if you remember that store. Cute clothes that could…maybe… work in certain situations but certainly nothing to rely on or plan an outfit around. The price point is great but it comes with fabrics and materials that are thin and have a lot of lose threads around the seams. The good thing is SheIn offers easy and free returns and is still new and will grow and improve in time. I will probably order again to try some of the fall pieces when they arrive, especially since returns are easy and convenient.
